For those of you that want to make a picture book dummy there’s a neat challenge getting started right now at Kid Lit Art. It starts Jan 9th with picking your project (although I imagine you can catch up if you start late). And it ends with submitting your dummy to agents and/or publishers on July 1st. I’m doing it! Anyone want to join me?!

I have made several dummies before and I love the process. I guess I just like making books in general! I always learn so much about storytelling and illustrating with each one. Here’s a photo of a few of them.

Happy New Year! I’m giving away this little print of Snowflowers over on my blog Art on the Page. Stop by to leave me a comment and be entered in the drawing celebrating my 2 year blog anniversary. I hope you all have a fantastic 2012!

Brooke, Tina, Marsha and I are really excited to have Angela Matteson join us. Look at this gorgeous illustration based on Roald Dahl’s James and the Giant Peach that Angela recently posted on her blog. What scary sharks!

Pretty soon we’ll spiff up the header to include her and hopefully you’ll be seeing her posts before long!

Halloween is coming right up! Don’t forget to check out The Picky Little Witch by Elizabeth Brokamp and illustrated by our own fabulous Marsha Riti.

Listen to this ingredient list- “Eye of newt, toe of sock, heel of boot, salted rock, hair of slug, wart of frog, spit of bug, and mold on log.” YUM!

Hello All,

I just wanted to share the news that I have a book The Picky Little Witch out in stores now as well as on Amazon. It is a fun Halloween read about Little Witch who does not want to eat the witch’s stew her Mama is making for her. There is a twist at the end of the story, and a recipe for Halloween Soup! I will have a book launch at Book People this Saturday (October the 1st) at 11:30am for The Picky Little Witch. Hope you all can come!

And now, a shameless plug from Tina!

Yay! It’s almost time for Sputnikfest 2011!! Sputnikfest is a wacky, tacky outer space & art festival in Manitowoc, WI, where debris from Sputnik IV landed in 1962. I get to design the annual poster, which is a hand-screened edition of 100.

This past weekend I attended the SCBWI Summer Conference in L.A. and had an amazing time!  I wrote about it over on my blog.

This will be the year of the conference for me.  Last night I registered for the SCBWI’s Rocky Mountain chapter conference in September.  Not only will I get to have a portfolio critique with Adam Rex, but I’ll get to hang out with Jill!  Hooray!

Thanks for visiting our new blog. We are four artists that are excited to show our children’s illustrations together. Tina Kugler, Marsha Riti, Brooke Boynton Hughes, and me- Jill Bergman will each be posting here. Stop by to see our own versions of a new theme each month. We’ll also share news, sketches, and other fun stuff. In fact we are still working out the finer details, who knows what nutty things we’ll come up with. Our interview pages aren’t all done yet so check back to read those soon.

We’d love to say hi to you- leave us a message!
